See writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.
Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camp), set up the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, troubleshooters, and facilitators.
Well, I didn’t know what to expect from this one because Taylor Sheridan either makes an interesting and entertaining series or makes a disaster like the Yellowstone spinoff with Harrison Ford called 1923. Billy Bob Thornton is an excellent choice for this role, the character is fun and interesting and completely different from most characters in today’s shows and movies, which is refreshing. Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton, is the character we needed, and the series is entertaining, without any pretentious nonsense, at least for now.
His family, daughter and ex-wife are hilarious, his relationship with his daughter is a bit bizarre, but he himself is shocked by it at times, as we can see by his reactions. His ex-wife, played by Ali Larter, is pure parody, but it works and fits perfectly into the plot. The dialogues are what make this series interesting, unlike most of what the “entertainment industry” is making it out to be.
The cinematography is good, and the soundtrack is excellent and fits perfectly with the plot and atmosphere of the series. It remains to be seen how the characters will develop, including those played by Demi Moore, Jon Hamm and Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris, Tommy Norris’ son. The cast is very good, the actors are clearly having fun and it shows, which makes the series even better.

It was too polished and predictable. It feels like they fired the entire writing room and hired a new crew for episode 2. Episode 1 had some major technical flaws in terms of the technology actually used.
Episode 2 is so well done, from a pacing standpoint. I understand some of the earlier low rating reviews.. BUT if they keep spinning the over the top dialogue from episode 1 onwards, ditch the wording to deliver smoothly.
What can be so hard to digest, this could be a truly exceptional production, especially with the talent that has joined this production. Let’s hope they can iron out the early wrinkles and this will be the right thing to SHOW.
